George ready to be leader on ISU’s defense

August 14, 2013 By Todd Kimm

Jeremiah George is ready to become the leader of the Iowa State defense. The senior middle linebacker heads up an inexperienced linebacker crew that lost Jake Knott and A.J. Klein off last year’s team. “I’ve been in their position, so I completely understand where they are coming from,” George says. He says they will take directions from the coach and he will lead the team in following through.

Most of Iowa State’s front seven will be new this season but George says while it is an inexperienced group it is more talented. “I will confidently say that we’ve done so much in the fast few months to build our strength and our endurance levels,” George says. He says now all they have to do is match their minds up with their bodies and they will be fine.

George says the defense just needs game experience.

Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads is expecting big things from George this season. “I don’t see a guy that is lost with two inexperienced players playing by his side,” Rhoads says. He says George was the number one vote getter when the captains were selected.

The Cyclones open the season at home against UNI on August 31st.
