Farm linked to cyclospora outbreak is back in production

August 27, 2013 By Matt Kelley

Federal officials say the farm in Mexico is back in business that was linked to a recent outbreak of a food-borne illness in Iowa and Nebraska. The Food and Drug Administration says Taylor Farms de Mexico is resuming operations as no food safety violations have been found in any of the latest inspections.

The operation was tied to the outbreak of cyclospora, which sickened more than 240 people in Iowa and Nebraska. Hundreds of others had similar intestinal illnesses in 20 other states, but the cases were never linked to the farm. It shut down voluntarily after the F-D-A positively tied its salad mix for Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants to the cyclospora outbreak.

Two women who got sick, one each from Iowa and Nebraska, have filed separate lawsuits against the owners of restaurants in Sioux City and Cedar Rapids.
