Deere & Company is buying the assets of an Iowa firm that’s been making planters with Deere for about a decade.

Bauer Built Manufacturing in Paton has been making “co-branded” planters with Deere since 2002.

According to the company’s website, Bauer is responsible for the planter’s frame, row markers and hydraulic system, while Deere technology is used for the rest.

In a written statement released Wednesday, a John Deere executive said Deere plans to “accelerate the growth of its planter business globally” and the company is buying designs, inventory and equipment from Bauer, as well as Bauer’s manufacturing plant a few miles northeast of Jefferson where 150 people are employed.
