Iowa State University officials are investigating the theft of cell phones and cash from the locker room used by the visiting Iowa Hawkeyes this past Saturday night.
A few minutes after the Iowa-Iowa State game concluded, the theft was reported to ISU police. Nine Hawkeye football players and coaches had cell phones and 50 dollars in cash stolen.
In a written statement, officials in the Cyclone athletic department called it an “unfortunate” and “unusual” situation — and promised if they can’t track down the person or persons responsible, ISU “will reimburse those who suffered losses.”
ISU hires private security guards to be on site before, during and after games in Ames. The guards are to ensure only those with proper credentials enter the locker rooms.
According to the written statement released today, Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard “expressed his regret” directly to Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz and Iowa’s athletic director Saturday night after the thefts were discovered.
