Two people were killed and another injured during a collision between an SUV and a semi this morning in western Iowa’s Harrison County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol. the accident happened at around 6:50 a.m. on Interstate 29, near Onawa. Officials say a 2000 GMC Sonoma was traveling south on I-29 when it left the west side road. The driver over-corrected, sending the SUV into the center median and into the side of a northbound 2012 Kenworth semi.

Following the collision, the SUV came to rest on the west shoulder of I-29 in the northbound lanes. The semi came to rest in the east ditch.

One of the crash victims was flown by LifeNet helicopter to Creighton University Hospital in Omaha. The two other victims died at the scene. The accident remains under investigation. The names of the victims were being withheld pending notification of relatives.
