Grassley goes on big run to celebrate 80th birthday

September 17, 2013 By Dar Danielson

Iowa’s Republican U.S. Senator Charles Grassley is turning 80 today, but he isn’t just sitting back and enjoying the day. Grassley began the day with a morning jog. “I ran from where I sleep here in Washington, D.C., to the Capitol, so you might say I ran from the home to the dome, you know,” Grassley explained.

That’s a distance of around 10 kilometers – 6.1 miles. “I did it in about an hour and 20 minutes, six and one tenth miles — so my legs are a little bit tired considering the fact that I ran twice further than I’ve ever run in my life,” Grassley says.

Grassley is an avid jogger, running four times a week, but never farther than three miles at a time.
