Drake looks to get back that winning feeling

September 18, 2013 By Todd Kimm

The Drake Bulldogs face another rated opponent when they host Indianapolis University on Saturday. The Bulldogs are 0-2 and have been off since a September seventh loss at UNI.

They face an IU team that is ranked 12th in division two. “This is a really good opponent, they just beat the number 9 team in the country in their opener. And I think they’re ranked 12th now and they beat the defending NAIA champion one year removed by I think 51-20 this last Saturday. They are a well-oiled machine that has a lot of veteran players, and they are rolling right now,”  Drake coach Chris Creighton says.

The Bulldog defense will need to slow down a high powered offense with a senior quarterback and a runningback that Creighton says is very productive. Creighton normally does not like off weeks but felt this one came at the right time as he says they are young and used the time off to work on some things.

Creighton says the Bulldogs needs the boost of confidence that comes with a victory. “We need to experience Drake football, and with that comes victories,” he says. “The feeling of knowing that you’re playing hard, you’re playing well, you are in your home stadium, and we haven’t experienced that yet. And we hope that happens Saturday,” Creighton says.
