Iowa wraps up nonconference schedule against Western Michigan

September 20, 2013 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa Hawkeyes close out nonconference play at home against Western Michigan. Iowa should have success running the football in this one as the Broncos give up 245 yards on the ground per game. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz feels that stat is a little misleading. He says they made it tough for their first opponent to run the football and then played an option team, so it is difficult to tell what they may do on defense.

Ferentz says this game won’t be easy. Iowa lost to Central Michigan last year, fell to Northern Illinois three weeks ago and has lost its last two games against the Broncos. “They play good football and I still think Northern Illinois is a really good football team, we said that a year ago and still say it. It’s kind of the nature of that conference,” Ferentz says.

Mark Weisman has 85 carries in three games. Ferentz also considers Damon Bullock a start as well and says he would like to get more carries for Jordan Canzeri. He says it will help to get the other backs more involved and that is something they will discuss every week.

Iowa is 2-1.
