A high school in Dubuque was placed in lockdown mode this afternoon after a man with a gun was spotted in the area. Police were called to a home near Glen Oak and Rosedale Street in Dubuque at 12:15 p.m. on the report of man in a backyard armed with a gun.

Officers arrived and ordered a lockdown of several area schools, but only Dubuque Senior High School was actually shuttered as other schools had already released students as part of an early dismissal day. Police say they were able to contain the incident to the backyard and the man, who was threatening to harm himself, eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Dubuque police say no one was injured and no charges are pending at this time.
