More details have been release regarding the death of a Charles City man involved in a Northwood domestic incident earlier this week. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Worth County deputy Isaac Short responded to the residence at around 11:30 Sunday night after being notified of a possible domestic assault and found 44-year-old Michael Zubrod severely beating 48-year-old Rhonda Schukei with scissors and a hammer and verbally threatening to kill her.

Two more Worth County deputies, Shayne Hoch and John Smith, arrived on the scene and along with Short attempted to subdue Zubrod using tasers, but they didn’t have any effect as Zubrod continued to try to attack Schukei. Zubrod was eventually wrestled to the floor with the deputies handcuffing him and applying leg shackles.

While Zubrod was handcuffed and lying on the floor, he became unresponsive. Paramedics who had responded to the scene to attend to Schukei  were not able to revive Zubrod. The DCI says they continue to investigate the incident and are still awaiting toxicology tests to be completed as part of a full autopsy report.
