Iowa State hurt themselves with penalties and a turnover early to fall behind Texas 10-0 in the Big 12 opener at Jack Trice Stadium. But the Cyclones rallied behind the running of QB Sam Richardson to tie the ballgame with 4:34 to go in the first half. Richardson had several big scrambles during a 92-yard drive in the second quarter that he capped with a 12 yard touchdown pass to running back Aaron Wimberly.
The fired up Cyclone defense held Texas and ISU then moved quickly down the field and were only stopped by a dropped 3rd down pass that would have given them a first down. They settled for a 41-yard Cole Netton field goal with :33 to go in the first half.
Texas roared back to score in five plays — with the big play a 44 yard pass into the end zone with no time left on the clock. John Harris caught the ball for Texas among several Cyclone defenders. Longhorns lead at the half 17-10.
