A Charles City woman has been charged with illegally buying guns for another person. Charges revealed in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapid accuse 44-year-old Wendi Patrie of buying three guns in 2010 and 2011 for herself when she was actually buying the guns and then giving them to her boyfriend.

The boyfriend — who eventually became her husband — was a felon and could not legally possess the weapons. She is charged with four firearms violations, two counts of making false statements in connection with buying firearms and two counts of transferring firearms to a felon.

Patrie is scheduled to go on trial December second. The maximum sentence for the charges against her is 40-years in prison and a possible one-million dollar fine.
