It’s a musical hobby with a certain ring to it and people from across the Midwest are chiming in. From churches, schools and clubs across the region, handbell ringers will be in central Iowa this weekend for a day-long workshop and concert. Pat Bradshaw, with the Rezound Handbell Choir of Kansas City, expects good attendance for the workshop.

“There’s over 100 people registered,” Bradshaw says. “Rezound will be there teaching handbell technique classes, musicality classes, trying to help people improve their ringing.”

In addition to the workshops in Webster City, there will be a series of concerts both Friday and Saturday at two locations in town.) “There will be massed ringing, which means all hundred of those ringers will be together in the gymnasium ringing together,” Bradshaw says. “That’s always quite a beautiful sound.”

The workshop is being put on by regional chapter of the Handbell Musicians of America, covering Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska and Kansas. Learn more at: www.agehr-ia.org
