Semi runs into school bus in Mahaska County

Authorities say a semi collided with a school bus in southeast Iowa’s Mahaska County near Oskaloosa on Tuesday morning. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a the school bus driven by 48-year-old John Hoekstra of Oskaloosa was stopped on Highway 92 with its stop arm and red lights activated when it was rear-ended by a semi driven by 44-year-old Kevin Green of Tracy.

The semi ended up in southbound ditch after hitting the bus. The crash report states that the driver of the semi had his vision obstructed by sunlight at the time of the accident. Four students on the bus between the ages 9 and 15 were injured and taken to be evaluated by a school nurse.

The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
