The Grand Falls Casino in far northwest Iowa agreed to an illegal gambling fine of $3,000 from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission at their meeting this week.

Commission administrator, Brian Ohorilko says the problem involved a person who has signed up to be banned from gambling. “An individual that was on that statewide list…was successful in getting a players club card, made it onto the floor and gambled,” Ohorilko explains.

He says the casino took the proper action. “Grand Falls did detect that that card was accidentally, but improperly issued and identified that patron and removed them from the floor,” Ohorilko says.

The casinos are required to keep a list of those who have signed up to be banned from gambling. “Grand Falls immediately after the incident agreed to conduct additional training with their players club representatives to better equip them so they are able to detect when an individual who may be on that list  tries to get a card,” Ohorilko says.

The Grand Falls Casino is located in the Lyon County town of Larchwood.
