An Oelwein man is facing charges after shootings that left him and his wife in the hospital. The Oelwein Police Department was called out around 7 a.m. Tuesday to the Niki and Myron Meador home on 10th Avenue Northwest after neighbors heard gunfire from inside the home.

When officers arrived, more gunfire was heard coming from the residence. Forty-four-year-old Myron Meader came out of the house suffering from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Authorities entered the home and found 38-year-old Niki Meador inside with several gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the Oelwein hospital and then transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City.  A condition report is not available.

Authorities have issue a warrant for Myron on a charge of attempted murder. He will be taken into custody after his hospital stay. Myron had previously been arrested Black Hawk County in 2001 for domestic abuse assault with intent, which involved a different woman. He pled guilty and was sentenced to probation.

In 2012, Niki Meador got a temporary protective order seeking protection from Myron for domestic abuse. The order was lifted a few days later.  More charges are pending.
