Teen girl faces charges in death of baby in Libertyville

October 28, 2013 By Matt Kelley

A teenage girl is now facing charges for the death of an infant earlier this month in southeast Iowa. Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to a home in Libertyville early on the morning of October 11 and found a deceased infant girl in a closet.

Authorities determined a 15-year-old girl had given birth to the child the previous morning. The teenager, who’s name is not being released, has been charged with Child Endangerment Resulting in Death.

The charge is filed in juvenile court, by Iowa law does allow the option to waive the juvenile to adult court. If that happens and teen were convicted, she could face up to 50 years in prison.
