An accident Thursday morning in central Iowa will likely cause traffic delays on Interstate 80 over the next week. A backhoe being hauled on a semi trailer hit an Interstate 80 overpass near Altoona.

The DOT reports repairs to the bridge at exit 142 will reduce westbound traffic on I-80 down to one lane over the next week. Westbound I-80 motorists should expect traffic delays until the emergency bridge repairs are completed and may want to consider taking alternate routes to avoid delays, DOT officials said.

The repairs are slated to be completed by next Friday, November 8.
