Forecasters say Election Day in Iowa will be cold, wet and gloomy with mostly rain and the possibility for snow. Meteorologist Kurt Kotenberg, at the National Weather Service, says a storm front should start to roll over the state on Tuesday morning. “In Iowa, temperatures should mainly be above freezing when this precipitation arrives,” Kotenberg says. “It should keep most of Iowa in rain and we could see a half an inch to an inch, maybe even an inch and a half in some place.”

While the rain may mix with snow in some northern Iowa counties, Kotenberg says it’ll be a different scene north of the border. Temperatures will be dropping into the low to mid 30s Tuesday night into Wednesday in southern and central Minnesota, so that area could see six inches of snow.

After the rain on Election Day, Kotenberg says Iowa should have a relatively calm weather week. He says highs on Thursday and Friday should only be in the 40s and low 50s across Iowa with no further precipitation in the forecast.
