A fire damaged an apartment complex in Iowa City early this morning. Firefighters were sent to the apartment at 328 N. Dubuque Street, near the University of Iowa campus, just after midnight and found smoke coming from the eaves on the roof.

The fire was extinguished within 45 minutes. Six apartment units were evacuated, but no one was injured. Investigators have not determined an exact cause for the fire, but say it appears to have started near a ceiling-mounted light fixture on the second floor.

Damage to the building is estimated at $40,000.
