The State Medical Examiner has released the cause of death of a western Iowa foster child. The medical examiner says five-and-a-half-year-old Dominic Elkins of Logan died from head injuries and drowning.

Elkins’ body was found August 31st in a ravine in rural Harrison County by the foster family that he had been living with for around two weeks. Another foster child with the same family, 17-year-old Cody Metzker-Madsen, is charged with first-degree murder in the Elkins’ death.
