The Iowa Hawkeyes open the season at home on Friday night against North Carolina-Wilmington. As he enters his fourth season at the helm coach Fran McCaffery has a roster that is talented and experienced. He says they have enough leadership on the floor now, whether it’s from the guards or somebody like Aaron White, to step up and tell the team what to look for in certain situations.

Friday’s game will be the first in two years for Hawkeye forward Jared Uthoff, who began his career at Wisconsin before transferring to Iowa. McCaffery wants the Cedar Rapids native to be aggressive and not think about the long layoff. “Just go play, don’t be trying to make it a game of perfect, that’s not what it is,” McCaffery says.

He wants Uthoff to score when he has the chance and to not try to drive in and get a better shot. McCaffery says that’s sometimes hard to do when you haven’t played a regular game in awhile.
