FFA-leaders

A young man from northwest Iowa’s Osceola County is now one of six leaders of the national FFA organization.

Steven Brockshus was elected at last weekend’s national convention in Louisville, Kentucky, and stepped into the spotlight before a record gathering of 63,000 FFA members from across the country.

Brockshus says, “When I was on stage looking around and got to see all those people out there in the crowd and just think of all the people that helped me throughout my entire life and my career in FFA, the thought that was running through my head was, I’m so blessed to have the chance to be able to go and continue to make an impact.”

Brockshus was named the FFA’s Central Region Vice President. He grew up on a dairy farm near Sibley and is a student at Iowa State University, majoring in agricultural education and global resource systems. After he graduates from ISU, Brockshus says he hopes to help others around the world. He says, “I would love to have the opportunity to travel overseas in a developing country such as India and do some agricultural mission work or work in ag-business or extension outreach for the education of farmers or something in a developing country.”

Brockshus says after that, he either wants to go back to the family farm or become an agricultural educator. Iowa has some 12-thousand FFA members. Nationwide, there are more than 500,000 members in 7,400 chapters in all 50 states. Learn more at: www.ffa.org
