The Story County Attorney has ruled an Ames police officer was justified in the use of deadly force in the shooting of a man on the Iowa State University campus Monday. Ames officer Adam McPherson shot 19-year-old Tyler Comstock of Boone to death in the pickup he was driving at the end of a high-speed chase.

Police say the chase started after Comstock’s father called police Monday morning to say his son had taken the pickup. The truck bore the name of a lawn care company and was towing a trailer. After a high speed chase, police eventually surrounded the vehicle on ISU’s central campus, but authorities say Comstock kept revving the engine and would not exit the vehicle.

McPherson fired six shots at the pick-up. Officers who then approached the vehicle discovered Comstock had been hit.
