A northeast Iowa man will spend nearly 20 years in prison after admitting to robbing two banks. Thirty-eight-year-old Steven Vandewalker of Waterloo pled guilty in July to one count of bank robbery and using a dangerous weapon to assault someone during a bank robbery.

He admitted to robbing the bank in Fredrika on October 23rd of 2012. During the robbery he went into an office where a bank employee and a customer were talking and admitted to hitting the customer in the face with a handgun. He fled the bank with $36,000 in cash. Police later found $26,000 in cash at his home and the gun.

Vandewalker also admitted to robbing the bank in Aurora on September 11th of 2012, and getting away with over $11,000. He was sentenced to 235 months in prison and ordered to pay $30,000 in restitution.
