Colder air is moving into Iowa today, bringing a dusting of snow and a big drop in temperatures. National Weather Service meteorologist Kurt Kotenberg says less than an inch of snow will fall, but it could cause problems on roadways as temperatures fall below freezing. “We’re just trying to make people aware that roadways could be slippery…and to just take a little bit of extra time traveling and make sure you leave plenty of distance between yourself and cars in front of you,” Kotenberg says.

Many Iowans may’ve given their furnaces a break over the weekend, but they’ll likely be turned back on today. “I think temperatures will bottom out tomorrow morning in the teens…we may have single digits near the Iowa/Minnesota border,” Kotenberg says. High temperatures on Tuesday are expected in the 20s to low 30s. A warmup is forecast again for the end of the week, with highs in the 50s by Saturday and Sunday.
