Wesleyan coach hoping to hang with Drake in basketball

November 12, 2013 By Todd Kimm

The Drake basketball team looks to move to 2-0 on the young season when the Bulldogs host Iowa Wesleyan. Drake opened with a thrilling 61-59 win at Illinois-Chicago, handing coach Ray Giacoletti a victory in his debut.

This will be the opener for Wesleyan and first year coach Todd Lorensen. “Any time you are a college basketball player you want the opportunity to play against someone who is supposed to be a little bit bigger and better than you,” Lorensen says, “and I know for our guys to be able play in the Knapp Center — a great venue in the state of Iowa, they are very, very excited for this opportunity.”

Lorensen says the Tigers hope to make a game of it. He says the speed and physical nature of the game is the difference when playing someone at a higher level and he says he’s concerned about rebounding and getting back on transition defense.

Lorensen says they will need to take care of the ball. “Any time you play any time, ball security is a big factor,” Lorensen says. He says if they can take care of the ball and get good shots they can hopefully hang around.
