Waterloo woman to serve 15 months for filing false tax return

November 20, 2013 By Dar Danielson

A Waterloo woman will spend just over one year in jail for preparing false tax returns. Forty-nine-year-old Victoria Jones pled guilty in August to one count of aiding and assisting in the preparation and filing of a false tax return.

Jones admitted she filed a return for a customer of her tax filing business that inflated business expenses and itemized deductions to get the client a tax refund. She admitted to filing multiple other returns that help clients get at least $30,000 in unwarranted refunds. Jones was sentenced to 15 months in prison, fined $15,000 and ordered to pay $4,800 in restitution.
