The latest snowstorm is tapering off and leaving behind bitter cold for much of Iowa. Meteorologist Kenny Podrazik, at the National Weather Service, says parts of eastern Iowa got the most snow from this round, with Linn and Jones counties reporting more than four inches in the past 12 hours. “Luckily, all of the snow is pretty much done,” Podrazik says. “The main issue now is going to be the strong northwest wind is going to be blowing that light fluffy stuff around, so open areas may have limited visibilities.”

Motorists should take it slow as many roadways across the state’s northern two-thirds may be snow- and ice-covered. He says the storm front is leaving behind exceptionally cold temperatures. “We’re going to see some lows between zero and five-below,” Podrazik says. “Throw a little wind on that, we’re going to see wind chills down between 15 and 20-below overnight.”

Slightly warmer weather is in the forecast. Parts of Iowa should see high temperatures back in the 20s tomorrow  and Friday.
