The 17th ranked Iowa State women pulled out to a 13-point halftime lead and that was the final margin as they held off every second-half challenge by 21st ranked Iowa for the 83-70 win.  “This is a great, great game, it was two great teams that played really hard. The environment that surrounds this game is really special,” Cyclone coach Bill Fennelly said.

The home team has won 12 of the last 13 games in the series. “Certainly when you win this game it means a lot, but I think it was the way we played, the way we found to get through some tough times to find a way win. Again, that’s a great team, they are going to win a ton of games,” according to Fennelly. He said Iowa is a tough team to defend.) “We knew going into the game we were going to have to score a lot of points. The goal was to keep them under 70. I didn’t know if we could do it, so if we hold them to 70 — you’ve got to get to 71 or better — and that’s pretty tough to do,” Fennelly says.

Iowa State’s Brynn Williamson hit five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with a game-high 21 points. Hallie Christofferson had 18 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Jadda Buckley added 19 points for the Cyclones. Iowa had five players hit  double figures, led by Samantha Logic with 18 points.
