One person dead after car hits school bus and catches fire

December 13, 2013 By Matt Kelley

One person died in a fiery crash involving a school bus in central Iowa on Thursday afternoon. Jasper County authorities say a car rear-ended a school bus near Colfax and burst into flames which quickly engulfed the car and the bus. Then, a second car apparently hit the first car.

Onlookers tried to put out the flames to save the driver of the first car, but that person could not be reached and died. No names were released. No students were on the bus from Colfax-Mingo and no other injuries were reported.

The driver of the car, who was killed in the crash, has been identified as 52-year-old Eric Ewurs of Newton.
