Oskaloosa man dies after accidental shooting

December 19, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

The Mahaska County Sheriff says a man accidentally shot at a shooting range west of Oskaloosa has died.Deputies responded to the range after getting a 911 call and found 73-year-old Dan Karow of Oskaloosa with a gun shot wound to the stomach.

Karow was transported by ambulance from the scene to Mahaska Health Partnership, and was then immediately life-flighted out of Oskaloosa. Mahaska County Sheriff Paul DeGeest said in a press release that Karow died a few hours after getting to the hospital. The press release states that Karow appeared to be unloading a revolver when it went off, striking him in the stomach.

Another resident who had come to the range to shoot discovered the injured Karow lying on the ground.
