Spirit Lake woman injured in fall from Waterloo bridge

January 2, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Slippery road conditions on New Year’s Eve contributed to several traffic accidents in northeast Iowa, including one that injured a Spirit Lake woman who fell off a bridge near Waterloo. Twenty-year-old Ellayna Wiedow lost control of her car in the eastbound lane of Highway 20 between the Cedar River Bridge and River Forest Road in Evansdale.

Police say she hit the center railing of the bridge and proceeded to get out and look at the damage. That’s when another vehicle lost control and hit Wiedow’s vehicle. The impact pushed her over the bridge, causing her to fall about 25 feet. Wiedow was taken to a Waterloo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
