Three arrested in burglary ring in Davenport

January 3, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Davenport police have arrested three men they believe were involved in a scheme to burglarize several businesses. Police reviewed some 30 burglaries in the city over the past several weeks and found the individuals involved were using ATV’s to travel creek beds, paths through wooded areas and open fields and bike paths to avoid detection as they approached the businesses.

Cops set up an undercover operation to shadow the men and ensure they could not escape on the ATV’s and were able to arrest them in the act. Police arrested 20-year-old Joshua Hayes, 19-year-old Shane Smeltzer and 21-year-old Sean Russell, all from Davenport. They each face various burglary charges.
