McCaffery, Barta talk about suspension (Audio)

January 7, 2014 By Todd Kimm

The Big Ten has suspended Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery for one game and fined Iowa $10,000 for his tirade during Sunday’s loss at Wisconsin. McCaffery received two technical fouls and was ejected for arguing with officials with just under 12 minutes remaining in the second half. He will sit out Thursday’s home game against Northwestern.

McCaffery will coach the team leading up to Thursday’s game.

Iowa athletic director Gary Barta says the school accepts the decision.

Barta says the Big Ten made the decision Monday and says he spoke with McCafferey and members of the conference several times and the conference then told him about the suspension and fine. Assistant coach Kirk Speraw will direct the Hawks against Northwestern.
