Iowa knocks off 3rd ranked Ohio State 84-74

January 13, 2014 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa Hawkeyes finally got the signature road win they have been looking for as they  erased a nine point second half deficit and roared by third ranked Ohio State for an 84-74 win.

“I’m just thrilled for our guys. When you work as hard as they do, to be able to watch them and experience them enjoying the victory and the celebration in the lockerroom — that’s what it’s all about,” Iowa coach Fram McCaffery says. The Hawkeyes only committed 10 turnovers and out rebounded the buckeyes 40-31.

“You cannot come into this building, turn the ball over, and get out rebounded and expect to win,” McCaffery says.

Devyn Marble led the Hawks with 22 points and Iowa was 21 of 26 at the charity stripe. He just played free and easy, played with confidence, McCaffery said of Marble. Marble says the Hawks turned the game around in the second half with defense. “I told the guys just to account for the people behind me and I’m going to take some chances and go for some steals, and I was able to do so, Marble said.

Marble says it was a very big win for the Hawkeyes that they wanted badly after losing some close games in the second half.

Aaron White added 18 points and Melsahn Basabe had 11 points and 10 rebounds as Iowa improves to 3-1 in the Big Ten and 14-2 overall.
