The Drake Relays will once again pursue top international competition this year. A year ago the relays featured a number of rematches from the 2012 London Olympics and director Brian Brown says they will use a similar model in putting together the field for this year.

Brown says they will be offering rematches from the World Championships in Moscow and will go after any medalists in those championships and offer rematches.

“The model just works, so we didn’t want a one and done in terms of the model,” Brown says. He says they are excited to bring in the best athletes from around the globe.

Brown says there will be one change in the road races for this year as the 6K becomes a traditional 5K. He says the 5-K makes more sense for runners with the other events that runners run and the road races will be the 5K, the 10K and the half marathon.
