A trial on the planned closing of Girl Scout camps in eastern Iowa begins Tuesday in Scott County District Court in Davenport. The Girl Scouts of eastern Iowa and western Illinois want to close and sell the last four scout camps in eastern Iowa. The scout council says research has shown that girls are more interested in adventure and travel opportunities than rustic camp experiences.

The council says it has offered many camping and outdoor opportunities but numbers have continued to decline. The court petitioners — Debby Stork, Sherry O’Keefe, Kelly Gilhooly, Lisa Tank and Michele Weber — say that should not happen without a vote of the membership first.
