West Delaware-Western Dubuque double header features top teams

January 24, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Several ranked teams will be involved when the West Delaware and Western Dubuque boys and girls basketball teams collide this evening. West Delaware hosts the boys contest and Western Dubuque enters the game with a 9-2 record and a number nine ranking in class 3A. First-year Hawks coach Matt Uthoff is going up against the man who coached him his senior year at West Delaware and says it should be a fun game.

West Delaware is 4-10 but Western Dubuque coach Dennis Geraghty says the Hawks are not that far away from being a quality team. He says once the players develop the tough mindset of their coach, then they will be a very good team.

The girls game in Epworth will match rated foes as class 4A sixth ranked Western Dubuque hosts number 12 West Delaware. Hawks coach Harold Shepard says they just try to do their best and they haven’t talked about either team’s rankings.

Western Dubuque coach Amy Ostwinkle says this will be a good test for her team as West Delaware is playing very well and they have several key conference games coming up.
