A former county treasurer and supervisor in eastern Iowa is facing a felony theft charge.  Kimberly Tanke of Williamsburg was charged Wednesday with first-degree theft following an investigation by the Iowa County Sheriff and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Tanke served as the Iowa County Treasurer from 2006 to 2010.

The current county treasurer and auditor discovered funds went missing over those four years and a private auditing firm identified missing funds in excess of $62,000. Last week, Tanke resigned her seat on the Iowa County Board of Supervisors citing personal reasons.

Tanke made an initial appearance in Iowa County District Court Wednesday afternoon and was released pending further proceedings.
