Cedar Rapids police investigating man’s death as a homicide

The death of a man who was found unresponsive early this morning in Cedar Rapids is being treated as a homicide. Police received a call at 3 a.m. about a body lying in the street on the city’s northeast side.

When officers arrived on scene, the man was unresponsive and pronounced dead. Police believe the man, identified as 31-year-old Clifton Sparks of Cedar Rapids, suffered a traumatic injury. An autopsy is scheduled.

There’s no word of any arrests in the case, but according to a news release, police do not believe there is an immediate threat to the public.
