ISU women fall in close game with Texas

February 10, 2014 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa State women were outscored at Texas 14-3 to finish the game in a 71-64 loss to the Longhorns in a game ISU led until the final couple of minutes. “It thought our kids played hard, almost all of them did, and competed and put ourselves with a chance to beat a good team on the road. We just didn’t get some shots to fall when we needed them,” Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly says.

The Cyclones led by as many as eight points in the second half but were held to one field goal in the final seven minutes as they fall to 5-7 in the Big 12. “I am proud of the effort, there’s no such thing obviously as moral victories, but I thought our kids competed and tried to do the things that they needed to do,” Fennelly says.

The Cyclones have the week off before hosting Kansas on Saturday. Fennelly says they talked with the team about making a choice and some of them have to make a choice to play better and that’s what they will try to do. Nikki Moody led ISU with 19 points as the Cyclones fall to 16-7 overall.
