Search on for state’s best burger

February 14, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

While many Iowans will be doing some fine dining for Valentines Day, for some, that will include a thick, juicy burger. Nominations are now being taken for the fifth annual Iowa’s Best Burger Contest.

Michelle Baumhover, with the Beef Industry Council, says they’re looking for suggestions. Baumhover says, “We’re seeking the help of all Iowans to go out, go to restaurants, find their favorite burger and nominate them to eventually win the title of Iowa’s Best Burger.”

The requirements are pretty straightforward.  “It has to be 100% beef patty,” Baumhover says. “Other than that, there can be added ingredients like spices or vegetables and all the condiments and toppings like cheeses and sauces, but the number one qualifier is, it has to be a burger.”

Last year, some 350 Iowa restaurants were nominated and more than 6,300 votes were cast. The winner was the 61 Chop House in Mediapolis. Entries will be accepted through March 17th. Find nomination forms at: www.iowabeef.org.
