Two teens suspected in killing of bald eagle

February 14, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

State and federal officials are helping investigate after a bald eagle was shot in Poweshiek County Wednesday. The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office reports the eagle was shot about two miles northwest of Montezuma.

A witness described a suspect vehicle, which was soon located. Two teenage boys were taken into custody and later released to their parents. Deputies located the eagle and it was taken to a veterinary clinic where it died of its injuries. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service are assisting in the investigation.
