A north-central Iowa woman was critically injured over the weekend while snowmobiling in Calhoun County. Thirty-eight-year-old Jill George of Clare was thrown from the snowmobile she was operating when she hit a snow drift, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on North Twin Lake. George suffered a  head injury and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Fort Dodge and later airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. George was listed in critical condition this morning. A passenger on the snowmobile, 24-year-old Hilary Hansch of Fort Dodge, was not injured. The DNR reports the snowmobile was rated for only one person and the women were not wearing helmets.
