Officials at Knoxville Raceway announced plans for a major improvement at the facility which is home to sprint car racing’s most famous event the Knoxville Nationals. Brian Stickel, the track’s general manager, says they are going to build a four story structure with suites and offices and that will add about 300-360 new seats.

Stickel says the plans also include a new entryway and skyboxes. “Knoxville Raceway draws over 200,000 spectators a year and we feel this would be a good addition to the facility and a good upgrade,” Stickel says.

Stickel says they hope to break ground on the project by the end of the 2016 racing season and says there is a lot of work yet to do, but they would hope to have the project completed by the 2017 season.

Stickel says the project will cost between four and six million dollars.
