Fire at Northwood airport closes Highway 65, forces evacuations

February 20, 2014 By Dar Danielson

The Iowa Department of Transportation says a fire at the Northwood Municipal Airport has caused them to  close  U.S. Highway 65 in the area.

Residents of Northwood were asked to evacuate this morning as the fire is burning at a fertilizer storage area on the grounds of the Northwood airport and the fire contains sulfuric acid.

The Iowa DOT says it is not sure how long Highway 65 will be closed down.
