High school wrestling tournament continues with quarterfinals

February 21, 2014 By Todd Kimm

The state high school wrestling tournament resumed this morning in Des Moines with the quarterfinal round in class 2A. Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove junior Cash Wilcke is top ranked at 182 pounds and recorded his second straight fall this one over Phirom Peterschmidt from Mid-Prairie of Wellman.

Wicke knows as the top ranked wrestler he has a target on his back. “Everybody is coming out to get me, you can definitely tell that,” Wilcke says. But he says if he just keeps setting everything up and being quick and physical, then he can do it.

Wilcke says the ranking does not add any pressure. “I’ve dealt with pressure all my life, I’m used to it. It’s really no big deal to me,” Wilcke says.
