Thursday’s storm moved a bit farther north than predicted, missing a wide section of the state that was considered in the bull’s-eye.

A popular truck stop in Hamilton County is packed with vehicles, according to Sandy Robb, who works at the Boondocks Truck Stop.

“We have people in their cars and people in the truckers’ lounge and every room possible is taken,” she says. “There’s nobody going anywhere real fast.” Parts of Interstate 35 in northern Iowa were closed in both directions for a time due to blowing and drifting snow.

Robb says the parking lot is curb-to-curb. “We have trucks upon trucks, semis upon semis and they’re lined up down the road,” she says. “Not much room to get around actually.”

At the nearby Broadway Flying-J truck stop, some 140 trucks are parked. The deepest snow from this storm is in Cerro Gordo and Worth counties with nearly eight inches.
