Iowa Air Guard technicians repairing F-16’s from across the country

March 7, 2014 By Dar Danielson

The flights of F-16 fighter jets in and out of the Iowa Air National Guard base in Des Moines is not completely over. The manned flights by Iowa pilots at the Des Moines base ended in September as the guard’s mission shifted to flying drones.

But a news release from the Iowa Guard says the 132nd Fighter Wing’s outstanding reputation for maintenance has led to work maintaining and refurbishing F-16 aircraft from Air Guard units across the country. The guard says Iowa technicians will keep working on jets from other states through September of this year and will save taxpayers over $2.7 million.
